The Scarecrows are coming to Cheshire!

NEW for 2025: All Scarecrows in the contest will be assigned a 10' x 10' area on the Great Lawn at Bartlem Park!

Individuals, families, groups, schools, businesses and organizations are all encouraged to share their creativity with the Cheshire community by creating an artistic scarecrow display for all to enjoy while exploring the paved walking trail at Bartlem Park. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business or organization. Proceeds will benefit the Town of Cheshire Human Services Department's programs that support Cheshire residents in need. 

Scarecrows will be on display for all to enjoy from October 8 through November 3. Community members are encouraged to vote for the Community Favorite through an online poll that will be available here from October 11 - October 19. 

An award ceremony will be held during the Mixville Halloween Bash at Mixville Park on Friday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m. Winners will be notified in advance so they can be sure to have a representative in attendance and learn what award they've won. 

Rules for Participants:
  • Scarecrows must be constructed by the entrant using originality and creativity to impress the judges.
  • Scarecrows must be family-friendly and in good taste for public display. 
  • At the Town's discretion, entries deemed offensive, political, religious, not family friendly or not in the good-natured spirit of the event will be removed. 
  • Store-bought scarecrows are not permitted and participants should minimize use of premade materials.
  • Suggested minimum height of scarecrows is 4 feet.
  • Scarecrows are restricted to a maximum height of 10 feet and must fit within a 10' square footprint.
  • Entrants are responsible for set up and breakdown and must ensure their scarecrow can withstand the elements. 
  • Participants will be notified of their assigned location on Friday, October 3 and notification will be made via email.
  • Scarecrows can be installed as soon as the email notification is received and must be in place by 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8.
  • No stakes may be used to secure the scarecrows! Hay bales and weighted umbrella stands make great bases instead. 
  • Contest organizers will begin to take photos on October 8 (weather permitting) to create the slideshow and poll for Community Favorite.
  • Winners will be invited to a brief award ceremony during the Mixville Halloween Bash on Friday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m.
