Therapeutic Recreation programs provide individuals with various abilities to participate in leisure activities. Participants will gain new experiences and have opportunities for social engagement in a supportive, safe environment with experienced staff.

Programs are designed for participants with various special needs, but individuals without special needs are welcome to participate too! The activities are presented so that participants will be able to understand, become involved and enjoy recreation experiences. A strong emphasis on social skills is included. Participants must have safe behavior, be able to follow simple instructions, stay with a small group and be independent with toileting and feeding.

For more information about programs or to discuss a participant's specific needs, please contact Therapeutic Coordinator, Barbara Costello bcostello@cheshirect.gov.

TR Handbells 2025
Ding! Dong! Participants will work with volunteers to learn to play holiday songs with handbells. We’ll perform these songs at different venues and events. Each person will be given a bell (equivalent to one music note) and prompted to play at the designated times to create the song. There will be 45 minutes of practice and 15 minutes of music activities. Mara Weed will be returning to help lead The Snowbells!

Need to increase your movement? Want to hang out with friends? We walk at Bartlem Park’s paved trails that are easy for all walking abilities to utilize. The group pace of 1.5-2 miles per session is super approachable, and the “walk and talk” vibe is a great way to stay active without it feeling like a workout. Walking outdoors has it’s own benefits such as reducing stress and mental fatigue. Don’t miss out, join the fun.
