  Youth Literacy Volunteer Role:This program is designed to promote confidence among young readers in Kindergarten through 2nd grade by working one-on-one with a teen mentor each week.  Volunteers with assist with reading, comprehension and lend a hand with worksheets, daily craft project and indoor/outdoor activities.  Being a volunteer your role is to help demonstrate the importance of reading and the part literacy will play in the young readers life as they grow older. Summer Camp Volunteers:As a volunteer for the Summer, you will work with the Yellow House staff to keep the camp running smoothly by helping to set up and cleaning up daily activities and assisting children throughout the day with indoor and outdoor games & activities, and help with arts & crafts. Volunteers are expected to arrive 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes after the program/camp ends.  We can be flexible and will work around existing family plans, but need your commitment for the duration of the program/camp once you've registered. Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® is a program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe and care for themselves when their parents are away for short periods of time. This is an instructor facilitated program that teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. Safe@Home is ideal for students that have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps towards independence.  (Class Fee includes a student handbook & a gift bag). *This is not a babysitter certification course (you can register for that course through Recreation). Upcoming Courses:  Each of the upcoming courses covers the same material, please only sign up for one session.Small class sizes, 9 spots in each session. It’s Back this Summer!Registration opens March 1st   Enrichment Program for rising 1st-3rd graders that brings Music + Literacy together in one fun learning environment. Your child is invited to take part in a week long music & literacy focused program facilitated by Cheshire teen Emilia Marcucci.  During the week your child will be introduced to a different guest musician daily and will pair their instruments and songs with books, crafts and activities to provide students the opportunity to develop their passion for music and literacy.This program is an extension of Sounds of Music 1.0 which was created by Ella Crerar from her love and passion of all things music.

Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® is a program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe and care for themselves when their parents are away for short periods of time. This is an instructor facilitated program that teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. Safe@Home is ideal for students that have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps towards independence.  (Class Fee includes a student handbook & a gift bag). *This is not a babysitter certification course (you can register for that course through Recreation). Upcoming Courses:  Each of the upcoming courses covers the same material, please only sign up for one session.Small class sizes, 9 spots in each session. Designed by CHS cross country and track athletes and supervised by Youth Services staff, the program encourages kids to stay active while enjoying the outdoors at the Bartlem complex.Each session begins with group warm-ups, followed by a mix of short- and long-distance running, relay races, and team-building games at the Yellow House. To wrap up the evening, participants will cool down together and take part in a brief mindfulness or meditation activity.The final day of the program, will conclude with a celebratory one-mile run. Video Game & Pokémon ClubJoin us at the Yellow House for a twist on our original Pokémon Club. Hang out with other Pokémon and Video Game fans. We’ll have themed nights that include board games & trivia, movie nights, occasional Switch Battles, themed crafts, snacks and more! Sample theme nights; Minecraft, Super Mario & Mario Kart, Zelda, Wii Sports, Sonic, Harry Potter & more! Open to 4th-6th gradersmeets once twice a month on the 2nd & 4th Friday 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Space is limited to 25 students per session.

  Youth Literacy Volunteer Role:This program is designed to promote confidence among young readers in Kindergarten through 2nd grade by working one-on-one with a teen mentor each week.  Volunteers with assist with reading, comprehension and lend a hand with worksheets, daily craft project and indoor/outdoor activities.  Being a volunteer your role is to help demonstrate the importance of reading and the part literacy will play in the young readers life as they grow older. Summer Camp Volunteers:As a volunteer for the Summer, you will work with the Yellow House staff to keep the camp running smoothly by helping to set up and cleaning up daily activities and assisting children throughout the day with indoor and outdoor games & activities, and help with arts & crafts. Volunteers are expected to arrive 15 minutes early and stay 15 minutes after the program/camp ends.  We can be flexible and will work around existing family plans, but need your commitment for the duration of the program/camp once you've registered. Safe@Home by Safe Sitter® is a program designed for students in grades 4-6 to prepare them to be safe and care for themselves when their parents are away for short periods of time. This is an instructor facilitated program that teaches students how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. Safe@Home is ideal for students that have expressed interest in assuming the responsibility of staying home alone. The program is designed to prepare students for their first steps towards independence.  (Class Fee includes a student handbook & a gift bag). *This is not a babysitter certification course (you can register for that course through Recreation). Upcoming Courses:  Each of the upcoming courses covers the same material, please only sign up for one session.Small class sizes, 9 spots in each session. Registration & Payment Deadlines are 10 working days before trip date: Spare Time (6/16)     Deadline:  Mon. June 1st Urban Air (6/18)        Deadline: Mon. Main Street). All trips require a Cheshire Youth Permission Form (FORM ATTACHED ABOVE) and some may require an Online Facility Waiver.  These will be emailed separately to once your child is registered online and must be handed in prior to the day of the trip. All trips have a minimum enrollment of 15-20 kids (depending on trip). Trips that do not reach enrollment minimum will be canceled and your money will be refunded.  A bagged lunch and water bottle should be brought on the trip unless lunch is provided as indicated on the flyer above. Children who have an Epi-pen or inhaler should bring it with them on each trip and hand to the trip Supervisor at drop-off.  Parents' who wish to carpool home from the Yellow House MUST provide a note with your child's name/date/parent who will be transporting your child AND a parent/guardian's signature.  Cancellation Policy: notification of 10 days or more may get 100% refund. notification less than 7 days may be eligible for a 50% refund. (due to guest counts & facility contract details being confirmed) notification less than 48 hours will not be eligible for a refund.
