The Cheshire Memorial Day Parade Committee invites you and your organization to participate in the 2024 Memorial Day Parade. The 2024 Cheshire Memorial Day will honor the year of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and will take place on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 1:30 pm.  We ask all parade participants to keep this theme in mind when decorating floats or in developing posters, banners or any related materials for the parade.  It is important to the Town of Cheshire, the Cheshire Veterans Council and all the residents and businesses in Cheshire continue to recognize and honor those who serve and have served our country.

Shuttle bus service will be offered from Cheshire High School to the beginning of the parade route.  The buses will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Restrooms will be available at Highland Elementary School and at the Youth Center.

Your response is due no later than April 23, 2024.   All groups MUST RSVP (even if you march every year) so the division commanders will be aware of how many people to expect in their division.  Groups that have not RSVP’d will not be included in the marching orders.

Things to keep in mind when deciding to participate:

  • Volunteers are critical to the organization of the parade. Any person who is high school age or older is welcome to help. To learn more about volunteering with the Parade Committee and helping on the day of the parade, email recreation@cheshirect.org.
  • There is no rain date. In case of inclement weather, the parade may be cancelled. Information will be available on the Parks & Recreation website at cheshirect.myrec.com and on Facebook by 10:00 a.m. the morning of the parade.
  • Candy and other giveaways are discouraged, but if you choose to distribute them, they may not be thrown into the crowd. It is dangerous. Any giveaways must be handed to parade spectators.
  • No political posters or signs are allowed in the parade. This includes handouts, leaflets, etc.
  • All commercial vehicles in the parade must display a patriotic theme in honor of the veterans.
  • The parade will be reviewed by the parade officials from the reviewing stand located in front of Cheshire High School Parade.   Officials will march in the parade to the reviewing stand and fall out to make their way to the reviewing stand.
  • Any groups planning to stop in front of the review stand for a demonstration should keep their performance short.
  • Marching Orders will be available on the Town website on or about May 17, 2024.
  • Please call the Parks and Recreation Department at (203) 272-2743 or send an email to Stephanie Dunn at sdunn@cheshirect.org to reserve your space in the 2024 Memorial Day Parade.
