Drawing (Adults) - Drawing a Satin Dress
Basics of Drawing - This class is an opportunity to learn about landscape drawing, observation and seeing the subject in both traditional and new ways. Different concepts will be introduced and explored each week, including the foundational skills of value, texture, perspective, and composition. There will be plenty of guidance for each student from the instructor. This class is for beginner to intermediate students. (5 weeks)Drawing a Satin Dress - This workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels to the expressive, forgiving qualities of charcoal through a drapery study of clothing. Students will explore foundational techniques in sketching and shading to build their understanding of depth, lighting, and reflective nature of a satin textured dress. In addition to traditional reductive work, students will have the option of toned paper and white charcoal to explore a different approach to these classic methods. Instructor: Sagan Anderson (1 day) Drawing Evening Curtains - This workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels to the expressive qualities of rich sanguine pencil through a drapery study of curtains. Students will explore foundational techniques in sketching and shading to build their understanding of depth, lighting, and proportions of a sheer curtain. Students will work with toned tan paper and red sanguine pencils to explore warmth and mood in composition. Instructor: Sagan Anderson (1 day)Expressive Drawing - Explore drawing as a tool for personal expression rather than observation. Through guided prompts, participants will use memory, sensation, movement, and imagination as starting points for creating expressive images. Working with charcoal and mixed media, students will experiment with mark-making, shape, value, and composition to develop drawings that communicate mood, energy, and experience. Mini Seaside Camp (Grades 3-6) A small CRAFTING advisory will be in effect for an entire week of building a mini seaside town! Students will create areas of ocean, beach and park, and will populate them with characters (surfers, mermaids, pirates, lifeguards, sunbathers) and create a myriad of props using clay, wood, fabric, and more. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Instructor: Megan Jeffery Nature Camp (Grades 2-5)Let’s get outside and be inspired by the beauty of nature that surrounds us! Students will enjoy a walk on the linear trail to look, listen, collect and sketch in our art journals. Back in the studio, we will explore printmaking bees and butterflies, draw animals, make moss gardens, create giant 3-D flowers, design wind chimes and more, based on our Nature theme of the day! Sewing (Kids) - Sew Much Fun Mini-Camp
Sew Much Fun - Students will have lots of time to build their skills with many choices for sewing by hand and on the machine. Use colorful felt to sew animals and fun shapes decorated with buttons and stitches. Learn how to use and then design your own patterns. Students will have a choice of projects, from simple to more advanced, including cute handbags, pillows, hobby kit, stuffed animals such as a cat, dog, turtle, whale and more. This class is for beginners as well as previous students. Students will enjoy a walk on the linear trail to look, listen, collect and sketch in our art journals. Gelli Plate Printing Workshop - Discover the playful and creative potential of Gelli plate printmaking in this introductory 2-day workshop. Basics of Drawing - This class is an opportunity to learn about landscape drawing, observation and seeing the subject in both traditional and new ways. Different concepts will be introduced and explored each week, including the foundational skills of value, texture, perspective, and composition. There will be plenty of guidance for each student from the instructor. This class is for beginner to intermediate students. (5 weeks)Drawing a Satin Dress - This workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels to the expressive, forgiving qualities of charcoal through a drapery study of clothing. Students will explore foundational techniques in sketching and shading to build their understanding of depth, lighting, and reflective nature of a satin textured dress. In addition to traditional reductive work, students will have the option of toned paper and white charcoal to explore a different approach to these classic methods. Instructor: Sagan Anderson (1 day) Drawing Evening Curtains - This workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels to the expressive qualities of rich sanguine pencil through a drapery study of curtains. Students will explore foundational techniques in sketching and shading to build their understanding of depth, lighting, and proportions of a sheer curtain. Students will work with toned tan paper and red sanguine pencils to explore warmth and mood in composition. "WALK JUST FOR THE HEALTH OF IT"Our Mission: To promote healthy lifestyles for all ages by providing a variety of interesting walking events in the Cheshire area with opportunities for education, socialization and exploration. Our Goal: To provide venues for all trekkers to connect and socialize at our walking events, while group leaders present interesting topics during walks. Walks are typically scheduled on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of each month. In case of inclement weather, the Parks & Recreation Department will announce the cancellation no sooner than 24 hours in advance, but usually a few hours before the walk. In case of a cancellation due to inclement weather, whenever possible, the makeup will be held at the same time, day of the week and location the following week. Occasionally, makeups will not be possible. Preregister to attend each walk and receive updates on specific meeting location and any changes to the schedule via email. Participants should dress for the day's weather, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Sunscreen and bug spray are suggested. If you have binoculars, you may want to bring them too! Art Camps - Creature Camp (Gr 3-6)
Mini Seaside Camp (Grades 3-6) A small CRAFTING advisory will be in effect for an entire week of building a mini seaside town! Students will create areas of ocean, beach and park, and will populate them with characters (surfers, mermaids, pirates, lifeguards, sunbathers) and create a myriad of props using clay, wood, fabric, and more. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Instructor: Megan Jeffery Nature Camp (Grades 2-5)Let’s get outside and be inspired by the beauty of nature that surrounds us! Students will enjoy a walk on the linear trail to look, listen, collect and sketch in our art journals. Back in the studio, we will explore printmaking bees and butterflies, draw animals, make moss gardens, create giant 3-D flowers, design wind chimes and more, based on our Nature theme of the day! Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Instructor: Kristy Endriss Puppet Making Camp (Grades 3-6)Experience a hands-on, imagination-filled adventure where kids create all kinds of puppets--spoon puppets, bag puppets, sock puppets, simple rod puppets, puppet theaters, and even big puppets! Campers will dream up and craft their own characters and learn how to bring them to life using voices, movement, and lots of creativity. Through building and performance, children will learn to act with and through their puppets to tell silly, exciting, and surprising stories, collaborating with new friends to put on playful puppet shows together. Instructor: Megan JefferyStorybook Camp (Grades 1-2) Each day we’ll read a Caldecott Honor or Medal picture book and explore its beautiful illustrations. Then, the kids will be led in creating their own artwork inspired by the story’s theme or the illustrator’s medium – bringing books to life through art. Some of the books that will be read to inspire the kids in their creative art making will be: HOT DOG by Doug Salati, Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey, Fireworks by Matthew Burgess, and more. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Fairytopia Camp (Grades 1-4)Immerse yourself in a world of fairies! Visit a fairy world and make fairies out of wire, beads, and flowers. Create a fairy garden, a headdress and jewelry; decorate fairy cakes; and explore the entire world of magical fairies wearing your own set of wings. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle.Magical Kingdom Camp (Grades 1-3) Experience the Magic! Bring characters from your favorite movies to life. You will build your own castle, design your own crown and learn how to draw famous characters and more! Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Instructor: Jocelyn PannellWizarding World Camp (Grades 5-7)Your magic wand awaits your hand to bring it to life with a week of magical art experiences where imagination in your most important tool! Through stories and with drawings, paint, and clay, each participant will heighten their wizardly skills. Using herbology, incredible plants will be sculpted from clay; transfigurations will occur through collaborative drawing exercises; potion making will be a breeze; care for a magical creature you create from fabric, yarns and wool. Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Instructor: Robin McCahillCreature Camp (Grades 3-6) Students will bring their very own fantasy beings to life! Beginning with a simple drawing and ending with a wearable costume or puppet, campers will experiment with unusual materials, build models, play creative games, and explore what lurks in the depths of their imaginations! Painting (Kids) - Paint Along: Outer Space
Paint Along: Lilacs - Using acrylic paint on canvas, students will learn foundational painting skills such as color/design, blending, creating texture and more. They will complete a finished 11"x14" painting in this one-day workshop. Students will learn the history of pop art and works of famous artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring.
