Trail Trekkers - Trail Trekkers: Saturday 9/6/2025 at 10:00 a.m. "WALK JUST FOR THE HEALTH OF IT"Our Mission: To promote healthy lifestyles for all ages by providing a variety of interesting walking events in the Cheshire area with opportunities for education, socialization and exploration. Our Goal: To provide venues for all trekkers to connect and socialize at our walking events, while group leaders present interesting topics during walks. Walks are scheduled on the first Saturday and third Wednesday of each month. In case of inclement weather, the Parks & Recreation Department will announce the cancellation no sooner than 24 hours in advance, but usually a few hours before the walk. In case of a cancellation due to inclement weather, whenever possible, the makeup will be held at the same time, day of the week and location the following week. Occasionally, makeups will not be possible. Preregister to attend each walk and receive updates on specific meeting location and any changes to the schedule via email. Participants should dress for the day's weather, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Sunscreen and bug spray are suggested. If you have binoculars, you may want to bring them too! Watercolor - Exploring Watercolor (AM) Exploring Watercolor - This class will explore the many joys and challenges of painting with watercolor while practicing techniques and paint handling. Each session will include a short demo to get us warmed up and suggestions for paintings which may span more than one class. Students are encouraged to bring their own reference materials but may simply choose to work from the provided ideas. Any level of experience is welcome and encouraged. Weekly practice will include techniques such as wash, dry brush, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and why they might be used. Discussions of common problems and how to avoid or remedy them will also be covered. Focus will be primarily on landscapes and nature (but students are encouraged to work on anything which interests them). Learn all about how a machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. We’ll also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery thread and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish with fun buttons, sequins, bling and fancy stitches. Collage (Teens & Adults) - Collage Portraiture Collage Portraiture - Come join us with making your own custom collage painting on a medium size canvas using acrylics and mod podge. Bring images of someone you have been inspired by to create an inspirational painting. Your image can be abstract, realistic, cartoon, etc. - whatever you can have fun with! Though all supplies are included, if you have related memorabilia like theatre tickets, magazine pictures, newspaper clippings please bring along to incorporate. Some drawing/painting experience is helpful but not necessary. Instructor: Janai Johnson (2 days) Donut Collage - In this fun workshop, students will learn to use the amazing Gelli plate to create decorative painted papers. These papers will then be overlapped to make an image of a colorful donut. The pieces will be attached to a 5” x 5” wooden canvas panel using a special Liquitex gloss heavy gel. The finished piece can either sit securely on a shelf or be hung on a wall. Bring a friend, come relax and go home with deliciously beautiful art. Instructor: Violet Davenport (1 day)Trash Art - Using found objects and non-recyclable trash, the participants will create their own works of art on canvas. Imagery templates will include fish and birds, though any subject may be created. This workshop is about the process and creative recycling. Each session will include a short demo to get us warmed up and suggestions for paintings which may span more than one class. Students are encouraged to bring their own reference materials but may simply choose to work from the provided ideas. Any level of experience is welcome and encouraged. Weekly practice will include techniques such as wash, dry brush, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and why they might be used. Discussions of common problems and how to avoid or remedy them will also be covered. Focus will be primarily on landscapes and nature (but students are encouraged to work on anything which interests them). In addition, students will be learning about composition and color theory as they work with this magical medium. Instructor: Bonny Hartigan (6 weeks) No Class 9/23

Day one begins with a brief lecture and demonstration, and then we launch into a full day of painting. Day two will consist of starting new works as well as finishing up the previous day’s work, with guidance and instruction on both days. Paints, canvases and other supplies are included. Painting (Kids) - Painting Techniques Painting Techniques - Students will use a variety of water media, such as acrylic and watercolor paint, to create works of art based on foundational principles. Lessons will include color theory, blending, shading and texture as they paint a variety of landscapes and still-life pieces. All levels are welcome. Dress for a mess! Graphic Memoir - Graphic Memoir Graphic Memoir – We’ll create a cartoon avatar of ourselves and tell personal stories through bite-sized 4-panel comics, exploring everything from childhood memories to life with our families, past and present. Each week, we’ll focus on a new prompt, while studying how cartoonist-memoirists use pacing, tone and lettering to enhance their narratives. Use felt to sew by hand with embroidery stitches to make colorful animals and fun shapes decorated with buttons. Learn how a machine works and then create projects like small pillows, bags, stuffed animals and more. Instructor: Christine Jewell (5 weeks)Sew Easy - Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Learn all about how a machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. We’ll also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery thread and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish with fun buttons, sequins, bling and fancy stitches. Choice of projects will include small pillows, bags, stuffed animals and more. Previous students are welcome to attend and to continue with more advanced sewing projects. Sewing (Adults & Teens) - Let's Get Sewing Let’s Get Sewing - Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating and troubleshooting. Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving. Students will learn a variety of skills including piecing, applique and quilting. Projects will include a 4-patch pin cushion, Boho bags, zippered pouch, or pillow covers.
