Fiber Arts - Dry Felting Extravaganza
Dry Felting Extravaganza - Wool has qualities that can be manipulated with felting needles into painterly works of Fiber Art. Learn the techniques of “painting with wool” in this workshop for both beginners and those with experience. Images will be provided or you may bring your own image for the instructor to help you plan your own unique project. Wool is the perfect, timeless medium to express a serious idea, create something whimsical, fantastical, or abstract, or depict a representational work of art. Bring a bag lunch. Instructor: Robin McCahill (1 day) Tapestry Weaving - Students will learn the necessary introductory weaving skills required to create an abstract tapestry. The resulting art piece may be used to decorate your living space or turned into a purse, book cover or a wearable part of your wardrobe. You will learn to experiment with different materials including yarn, fabric, ribbon and natural materials on a tapestry loom. Bring any of these materials you might have if you want to recycle them into your weaving. Bring a bag lunch. Instructor: Robin McCahill (2 days) Animal Pillow Cover - Using projectors or light boxes, trace an image to easily make a hand painted pillow cover. You may select a choice of templates (cat, dog, fox, buffalo, ram, owls, rabbit, etc.) or provide your own design. We’ll supply the 18” square cotton zippered cover (pillow insert is not provided.) You will finish the pillow cover with Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow fabric paints, which are soft and pliable when dry, and markers. Bring a bag lunch. Instructor: Robin McCahill (1 day)

Graphic Memoir - Graphic Memoir
Graphic Memoir - Students will employ both words and pictures to tell stories from our personal histories and those that have been passed down to us from our relatives. We’ll get our “feet wet” in this sequential art experiment by creating simple cartoon “avatars” as stand-ins for ourselves and others and use them in 4-panel comics to tell stories from childhood, school days and first jobs. We’ll examine the work of cartoonists (Barry, Chast, Kochalka,Satrapi,Telgemeier) who’ve written graphic memoirs, to understand how they use pacing and lettering and how they make their pages pop through line work, areas of solid black and color. For this class we’ll be using pencil, Flair and Micron pens and colored pencils. Instructor: Megan Jeffrey (6 weeks)

Sew Easy - Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Kids will learn all about how a machine works, threading, operating and troubleshooting. Begin by machine sewing by tracing simple lines on thick fabric, learning how to sew forward and backwards. We’ll also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery thread and soft felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish with fun buttons, sequins, fancy stitches and bling! Let’s Get Sewing - Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating and troubleshooting. Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving. Projects will include a 4-patch pin cushion, Boho bags, zippered pouch, and items for the home such as pillow covers. Tips for altering clothes can also be covered.
